The 'Girdle' Will lift off when the bolts are removed.. It's in a Recess, so it must come up mostly straight.. BIG pry bars with LITTLE effort do less damage than Little Screwdrivers prying Gouges.. Might have to 'Swat' it a little with a Big Hammer.. NOT HARD.. but once you get it to wiggle, it will come off.. If you have all the pieces out, you can clean and Hone the Bores.. I do not believe in the 'Ball Stone Hone', as it will hone places the rings can't reach to seal.. what is the god of that?.. I prefer to use Medium NEW Stones, and Hone till the Shinney is gone.. then you know the Bores have no Bellies in them, and the rings will seal.. JMHO.. Clean is hard to come by.. might consider building a Cardboard Shack inside of where ever you are doing the assembly.. at least till the Pan is on.. then things can get a little dirtier.. ALSO.. have the valves dressed.. and check the Heads and Block for flat.. It you really want to get Krazy.. Get Adjustable Cam gears, and get the cams set properly.. the cam position on the 95 I was working on, was off by 1/2 tooth on the drivers bank, and 1 tooth on the passenger bank.. I just re-drilled and pined the existing Cam gears to get it all to line up.. not a recommended method.. BUT I know the Cams are proper.. I'm thinking the Heads I got were Milled a LOT before I got them .. so it tossed the Cam Timing off a bunch.. Good Luck.. Keep it clean!!.. Cj
